FRANCESCO BUBBA
PROCESS

My works are a combination of sculpture, ceramics and painting. Every figure that I make is realized in terra cotta. I do not use any stamp/prototype but they are all single realizations hand-made. The process is long in order to finish every picture. More exactly, it takes me fifteen days and includes three phases:

Once finished, in the first phase, the figurines need fifteen days to dry, after that, they are introduced in the electric oven and drown at 980 degrees; they remain there for two days...

In the second phase, I apply the enamel to the drown figurines, then I put it again in the electric oven and drown at 980 degrees once again. It takes another two days for this step...

In the third phase, the figurines are glued to the cloth.

After a day, the painting is finished up once the colour is applied.

The cloths that I use are strengthened on back by a wood panel. The cloth is glued to the panel to make a unique body with the figurines.

My cloths don't need a frame because they are also painted on the edge which is most often ten centimetres.
