PRIETO BIOGRAPHY
José Jacinto Prieto was born in
Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico on July 18, 1951.
He started in the art field working wooden broom sticks
and many types of wood pieces that he could possibly work with, giving
them this abstract and crooked–spring look, better known by him
as: "Torcidos" (twisted). He found these pieces unique and
stylish, and starts giving them away to Family and Friends as gifts.
In 1997 he decided to take a big step and defeat a
new challenge: Marble. Jumping to the major leagues when he finished
his first marble piece after 4 years of sweat, work and patience: "La
Danza de María Sabina" (Maria Sabina’s Dance).
Some people said: "You have transformed stone
into the best unusual end exotic sculpture ever seen by the human eye".
That’s when he became a Sculpture Artist. Most
of his work has been in art expos and galleries, watched by hundreds
of people from Tijuana, Rosarito and different states from México
and the United States.
He still works as a Sculpture Artist these days, developing
new skills which have taken him to yet another level.
STATEMENT
I’ve start working this material and I felt inspired
for the shape it was getting, and excited to finish it, without concern
about size, difficulty or time.
On the contrary, the bigger and more difficult the
challenge is, the more gratifying it would be to me. For that motive
is no concern to me to invest time and years of hard work in the making
of these pieces.
As life goes by I want to immortalize my work, then
I would feel I made a difference in this world.
